Purple Strategies out with new poll: numbers remain steady

Purple Strategies is out with a new poll; there are no major surprises and the average of polls remains steady. Purple Strategies has a pretty good reputation for accuracy, though I would have preferred that they include Robert Sarvis as a choice. I suspect that a good part of the sample that chose "Undecided" would have chosen the Libertarian Robert Sarvis if they had been given the option. Leaving Sarvis out of the poll exaggerates the number of undecideds and props up Cuccinelli's number.

The bad news here for Ken Cuccinelli is that most of this poll (9/6/2013 through 9/10/2013) was carried out before Cuccinelli's badly stage managed attempt to tamp down on his role in the Giftgate and Star Scientific scandal by donating $18,900 to a charity with links to one of his political donors. Reaction to Cuccinelli's gesture (here, here, here, here, and here) was almost universally negative, which could mean that the next poll could show losses for Cuccinelli as Cuccinelli's scandals are pushed back into the spotlight and undecided voters climb off the fence.

It will be interesting to see if the next poll shows any negative impact from Cuccinelli's mismanagement of his scandals and his attempt to atone for one of them.
