Another $36,000 given to McDonnell's wife under questionable circumstances

"SpongeBob" McDonnell never met a freebie he didn't like.
From today's Richmond Times Dispatch:
Maureen McDonnell, the wife of Virginia’s governor, was paid $36,000 last year to attend a handful of meetings as a consultant to the philanthropic arm of one of the state’s major coal companies, a top coal company official said.
The author tries to soften the blow by saying Maureen McDonnell attended "a handful of meetings." If you read down further in the article, it is revealed that it was actually "two or three" meetings.

The median income of a Virginia household is $61,044, so Maureen McDonnell was paid the equivalent of more than half the annual income of a Virginia family for two, or possibly three, meetings. Doesn't that seem a bit excessive?
