The Richmonder endorses Charlie Diradour for Richmond City Council

Tonight I have a message for my fellow Richmond City Democratic Committee members:
To My Fellow Richmond City Democratic Committee Members:

Today I am happy to endorse Charlie Diradour in his run for Richmond City Council in the 2nd District. Charlie is a lifelong Richmonder with deep roots in the city. He attended school here, built a career here, and is raising a family here.

Charlie is a proud Richmonder and I believe he has the vision to help lead this city forward. Charlie is a small businessman and real estate developer and I believe he has the experience and attitude Richmond needs to rebuild the small businesses that can provide employment to Richmonders. He will work with the new school board to find a way forward to improve our city schools, particularly our middle schools.

Richmonders shouldn't have to leave the city to find employment. Richmonders shouldn't have to leave the city to shop for basic necessities. Charlie has committed to work for the repeal of the admissions tax that kills small entertainment businesses and the machinery and tools tax that kills small manufacturing businesses. The repeal of these taxes will result in enhanced collections of sales taxes and enhanced collection of the property tax as Richmond's real estate regains its value.

Charlie has received many endorsements from leaders in the Democratic Party and his community, including State Senator Henry Marsh, State Senator Donald McEachin, the Richmond Education Association, the Richmond Firefighters Association, and the Richmond Coalition of Police. If elected, Charlie will be able to hit the ground running, ready to work with our community's other leaders, teachers, police, and firefighters.

There are major challenges ahead for the City of Richmond in the next four years. There is no time for delay or hesitation. The World Bicycling Championships, the need for a new coliseum and baseball stadium, the development of James River Park into a world-class facility, and the ongoing redevelopment of the city's blighted areas require leaders who have the drive to move the city forward. I believe that Charlie Diradour is the kind of leader with the vision and drive to make Richmond into a first class city.

On this Thursday, September 27, 2012, I hope that you will join me in voting to give Charlie Diradour the Democratic endorsement for City Council in Richmond's 2nd District.
