Richmond contractor and developer David Gammino has declared his intention to run for the 5th District Richmond City Council seat currently held by Marty Jewell. From David Gammino's campaign website:
I have lived in City of Richmond since 1990 and in the Fifth District since 1993. The sum of all my activities during this time reflects my belief in the inherent potential of the City of Richmond and the importance of being fully engaged in one’s community.

I believe that my experiences, skills and perspective gained over my professional career; first as a legislative aid on Capitol Hill, then as a public defender and attorney in private practice, and most recently as a general contractor and developer, will enable me to credibly engage in the type of discussions which are critical for Richmond to become a more progressive city. Throughout my career, I have developed the skills and temperament to forge consensus, bridge differences, and achieve results. I expect all of these characteristics will allow me to serve capably as a public official.

Over the next 9 months I plan to speak with supporters to explain more fully why I feel that new leadership in Richmond is urgently necessary. I will endeavor to become an elected official who will display leadership with inclusive, thoughtful, and candid deliberations on the most pressing issues we face in our city. My guiding principles will reflect an effort to bring ideas and people together. I will be very grateful for the support of residents who share this philosophy.
Gammino has already set an ambitious schedule of campaign events and will certainly be a strong competitor for Jewell.
