It's official: Cranwell is stepping down in December

It's official: Dickie Cranwell will step down from his position as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia in December.
Virginia Democratic Party Chairman C. Richard Cranwell told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he intends to step down by December from the post he has held for five years.

The Roanoke lawyer and former House of Delegates Majority Leader said in an interview that will announce his decision on Wednesday. He said he has informed Democratic legislative and congressional leaders and top staff of the Democratic Party of Virginia of his decision.

It is impossible to think, "Virginia Democrat" without the smiling countenance of Dickie Cranwell marching proudly and happily into one's mind.

To say that Dickie Cranwell has embodied the image of the Virginia gentleman, would be a massive understatement.

Political activists from all across the political spectrum can learn volumes about being a great political leader, statesman and citizen, with Mr. Cranwell as their exemplar.
