South Korean corvette "Cheonan" reported sunk

The South Korean "Pohang"-class Patrol Combat Corvette "Cheonan" has been reported sunk in the Yellow Sea near the border between North and South Korea. Gunfire has been reported and the sinking appears to have the result of hostile actions by one or more North Korean vessels.

Update: NBC News is now reporting that earlier reports of gunfire were not correct. The "Cheonan" seems to have been sunk by some kind of underwater explosion: either a torpedo or a mine.
