There are certain rituals associated with every legislative season. Among them are the informal happy hours where lobbyists, legislators, staffers, and other politicoes of one sort or another get together for drinks before getting down to the business of the session. Partisans would be disappointed to find out that these occasions aren't terribly partisan, and Democrats and Republicans mix comfortably without confrontation.
I saw several delegates there, but you won't see them in these photos, as I wasn't there to "catch" anybody--rather, I just wanted to convey some of the feeling of a typical legislative session. Far from the cutthroat rhetoric one is likely to encounter online, the actual business of legislating has the feel of an afterwork cocktail party at almost any mid- to large sized professional services firm.
