Roland Burris is toast

Illinois' new governor, Governor Pat Quinn, has asked Roland Burris to resign from his U.S. Senate seat. It's become clear that Burris lied about his level of involvment with disgraced former Governor Rod Blagovich and did in fact discuss fundraising for Blagovich as a quid pro quo in exchange for receiving the Senate.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: any day a crooked politician is taken down is a good day.

Pat Quinn is apparently pushing for a special election to replace Burris, assuming Burris steps down quickly. This will of course be a major story and we will revisit it again as it develops.

This surprises me somewhat. I was under the impression that Burris was not tainted by Blago's corruption. Not a home run, but a solid guy, and about as good as you're going to get in a Dem. What a cesspool.
