Only 23 days left to resign from Congress

Another Republican congressman has announced he will not run for re-election. Jim McCrery (R-Louisiana) has indicated he will not run for another term, but it appears that he will finish his current term, making him subject to the two-year waiting period for lobbying. McCrery has said that he will move back to Louisiana, so perhaps he does not intend to become a lobbyist.

McCrery's seat will probably be retained by the GOP, but his departure does represent a changing of the guard in the Republican Party. The ten term congressman leaves to make way for younger members of the GOP.

I'm going to ask for an objective opinion on this.

Do you think this changing of the guard in the GOP is a good thing? Will it end up shifting direction away from social and wedge issues and onto the important issues of the economy, foreign policy, etc...?
