The Des Moines Register endorsement turns out to be irrelevant

I really didn't see this coming. The vaunted Des Moines Register has chosen to endorse Hillary Clinton and John McCain for the Democratic and Republican Iowa caucuses, respectively.

John McCain doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell in the Republican caucus, and as the graph above shows, all the momentum on the Democratic side of this race belongs to Barack Obama.

But if you want to talk momentum, you have to talk about Mike Huckabee. On the Republican side of the equation, Huckabee is running away with Iowa, while McCain is a dismal fifth.

I gotta be straight with you, my reading public: the Des Moines Register is engaged in wishful thinking. McCain is dead in the water and Hillary Clinton is fading fast. These endorsements will have zero impact on the final results.
