Queen to visit Jamestown--who will break the bad news?

Richmond, Virginia -- November 16, 2006

Virginia's newspapers and television newscasters are all afluffle this morning over the news that Queen Elizabeth II will visit historic Jamestown next year during Virginia's celebration of the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown. What makes this doubly cool--to me at least--is that Virginia was named for Queen Elizabeth I, the "Virginia Queen." Having Elizabeth II back (she visited in 1957 for the 350th anniversary) somehow feels like we are completing a circle.

Unfortunately, there is a down side to this visit, since someone will have to break some bad news to her majesty. What bad news am I talking about?

The coming annexation of Great Britain by the United States, of course. In "The 51st state," right-wing blogger Rocinante's Burdens argues strongly in favor of annexing the United Kingdom and Dominions.

An artist's conception of Rocinante's Burden's plan for "greeting" the Queen

I'm sure that President George Allen will put that right at the top of his list of things to do.

I'm not worried about England as much as I am about when we annex Canada (same article).

Talk about an awkward silence when they find out that they should have defended that border after all.

Thanks for noticing.

I don't believe I have ever recommended violence for tourists, even royal ones.

Nor did I use the word "annex". Plebicites, voting, and other such self-determination stuff is good enough for me. I simply advocated who should get the invitations.
